Prom Kiss – Short Story

bookOur first kiss was nothing like the fairy tales we were read made it out to be. We did not have some basic chaste contact or even some lovey-dovey movie kiss. If people did not know of us they would think we hated each other. Neither one of us knew that we were actually close friends outside of school only deciding to play rivals while in it. We had a life long game of one upmanship while in school. A lot of the other students just wrote us off as the two best students who were rivals more caring about their own lives then ours. We were rivals, friends, and confidants when needed. Living revolved around each other to either better or get beaten by in our endless rivalry. When we made it back to our homes we would talk about one person got over the other.

Something changed at a high school dance after a long game just that year of different turns for both of us. Grades, sports, drama, debate all swung either my way or hers. Sometimes another kid would try to shoulder between us as the top two spots. Doing all these things at such levels made it impossible to get a social life even started. Some of the girls would ask me to dance though, and on the more energetic songs I would leaving when a slow dance cropped up.

During one of these cycles my eyes caught a familiar figure away from most of the students enjoying themselves. She was a in a simple blue dress with her thick spectacle resting on the bridge of her nose while her hair was maintained in to one long braid resting over her shoulder. Her posture screamed her usual disgruntled attitude while I was walking up. Pulling the cup from my offered hand it was hard to see her face with the light of the room being pointed on the dance floor.

“What are you looking at, spud?” Her noncomittal containing so much effort it almost seemed hypocritical.

“Someone else who is having a bad night, string bean.”

Being a little heavier in middle school she had thought since I was shaped like One I was going to be named as one. While since she was going to be lanky and had problems anything that was too physical she was nicknamed string bean. Our names for each other was never used as a flat out insult being obvious why we had gotten them.

“You aren’t having fun?”

Chuckling in to my cup I shook my head before mirroring her position.

“I love going to these things alone. Makes me feel that trying to do all this stuff is worthless.”

Murmuring a reply she soon stood away from the wall before draining her cup. Asking me if we could talk without her usual fiery bluster we made our way out. Draining my own cup in short order before passing the doors out of the cafeteria. Going on auto pilot to the the auditorium where currently only a handful of students had the keys to. Which was also to mean that we both were in that group.

“You know when you said that back there, I was wondering the same thing why are you still in everything?”

“So I can be the best, like no one ever was, to calm them is my real test..”

Her purse hit my fore arm before bouncing back in her lap. The song I had started my answer to effective in getting her to smile. Despite showing everyone a gruff exterior while we sat in the darkness she felt comfortable because I had lived within a couple blocks of each other. This made study parties easier to get going and swap notes at. When I say “Party” I mean egghead sleep over. Our parents didn’t think much of it as we never actually did anything. We were rivals and friends.

“Pokemon, Huh?”

I smiled widely in the light hoping my smile could provoke hers. Instead, she looked serious before looking at the floor again.

“Why are you doing this then, no one cares here.”

The little bit of light coming through the door barely made things less then complete pitch.

My smile dropped in the silence before explaining as succinctly as I can.

“So what, fuck ’em. I want to be the best. No matter what I end up doing and if you haven’t noticed these are the people competing against us for everything. If they think they can stop me from making the world better. Then they got another thing coming.”

Her single eyebrow lifted slowly wondering something.

“You really are buying in that you can change the world.”

“Of course, people don’t even try anymore. So how can they say it can’t be done. I just haven;t found someone to believe it as well.”

The last comment felt right to say, but also strange. I never thought of doing this with anyone. Not a whole lot of girls would even be able to keep up. Noticing how close she was my mind seemingly went ballistic for now reason. Her light pressure of her head on my arm something that has been done so many time I really had to wonder what was wrong. Turning lightly to look at here she seemed to be contemplating something behind those glasses looking down in to the black.

“I had a date tonight, you know.”

I did know that, but everything related to fact or reason seemed so very very far away.

“Sean Kingsmond, the tennis player. He got drunk off of a couple beer he has brought and tried groping me.”

Sean hadn’t been at the dance. Before I asked how she felt she continued.

“Got a handful of him and crunched them before he lowered a strap, how come most boys are pervs?”

His punishment made me wonder if that was in my foreseeable future. For as she wondered about others of my gender there was a slight energy that made me notice her more them what she was saying. Listening as best I could thoughts began to cloud my reasoning. Trying to figure how my emotions were before realizing that there was a blossom of something else there. Warming without heat it was very enjoyable to bask in while my friend was talking.

“ So after asking the limo driver to drop me off, here I am.”

Nodding in understanding the silhouette of her face was pointed down. Reaching over our embrace seemed stiff, but felt like someone turned on the heater. After a moment she had wrapped her own arms around me before sniffling.

“Can we stay like this for a moment?”

Her tone was soft, wavering in nature and furthest from her usual cadence.

“We can stay like this as long as you like.”

It could have been seconds or hours as we sat there before she moved. Pulling my legs out before sitting on them my snarky answer soon stopped somewhere up my throat. A warm slightly wet pressure fused my spine to the wall behind me while I wondered how we never tried this. My hand grasped hers as we practiced for a moment before breaking for air.

“Are you okay.” Her voice was strung with emotion.

“I don’t really know. I feel strange.”

“I do too. Good strange though or bad.”

Wondering for a moment her hand was still intertwined with my own.

“Like I want just hide you from the world so I can feel this again with us like this.”

Her silence unnerved me enough that it made it like I screwed up. Trying to get up though she had moved forward pulling me on my back her body was suspended on hands and knees above me.

“That’s what I’m feeling too. Tibbers.”

She was smiling wickedly. We both knew of League of Legends.

“Does that make you Annie, you may be lanky, but you’re not a 12 year old. “

Her eyebrow raised at the comment before settling herself directly over me.

“I’m not the curviest, true. But You make me feel so strange. Wicked like Elphaba and I will have to keep you Fiyero far away.”

“We are such nerds.”

The kiss was deeper then before much so. It started fires under my skin it made me go dumb. Sitting up with her weight made me want to feel her closer. Wrapping her arms around me she had begun breaking the kiss to nibbling spots biting lightly over points just hard enough to know. The pressure made something squirm in the pit of my stomach if she wanted this. My teeth sunk lightly into her flesh sucking on it enough to get her to seemingly brace for something. Pulling her close she clamped her lips reigniting a kiss it was less sweetness and more fire. After a few moments we moved back to necking just before she put her hand on my chest.

“We need to stop.”

“Why is something wrong?”

“No, that’s the problem. I want what comes next and feeling how something hard is currently poking me.”

Going from slightly out of breath to brushing red is a skill that for some reason got her to laugh. Before I felt a pressure through the fabric grab me.

“I want a round of good hard action too. But I want with someone who has been my boyfriend for a while” She took her hand off before laying it on her hip.

“That and we wouldn’t want anything to happy until we were both ready.”

Grasping her hands from her lap I rested my head on her shoulder.

“I need a cold shower.”

“One definitely sounds good right now, although it is good to know I have that effect of someone. “

Dusting myself off for a moment before looking back to here she had kissed my chin smirking before hopping lightly grabbing my hand.

“Are we a couple now?”

“Someone has to keep you in line?”

Rough Draft – Where the line is drawn

I am still on the way of finishing this but here is a passage from my past Nanowrimo attempt. Now about half done before it was pushed back due to personal issues.

It was my Friday in the work week two days off to do with as I please. Finishing my movie before moving on my way back to the store their was only one thing that caught my eye. In the parking lot there was a black SUV bright with the orange light reflecting off of it the model seemingly new like one of those undercover cop vehicles. It didn’t have anything that made me nervous except it just seemed out of place. Getting inside the store did it take me a moment to realize that something was wrong.

All of the lights were off with a small series of voices coming from the main storefront looking out through the windows on the swinging double doors. More then a couple heads were seen in over the top of the dry goods shelves Paul’s hat making him apparent from the people standing opposite from him. Faces were hard to see as the rest of the lights out on the main floor had also been turned off leaving everything to be illuminated by the rays orange light coming through the windows. Something was wrong because only workers should be in the store at these hours our closing time was a couple hours ago. Pulled back there was a glove over my mouth. I tried screaming but no sound came out. Looking up I could see Jake’s face looking out in the main store front a worried expression set as he pulled me away from the window.

“Listen” he whispered.

“We need to get to the p.a room. Follow me and be quiet.”

Having to walk by the people made me feel more then just a little scared.

“How are we going to sneak past them.”

“We aren’t. Close your eyes. Do not open them until I say so.”

Choking up on why I had to be blindfolded I did what I was told trying to figure out what was going on a small strip of cloth was given to me after he had tied it over his own eyes I felt comfortable enough to do it myself. His hand soon found mine as a bright light could be felt on my face the usual tiles underneath felt more like grass, soft yet strangely solid. Walking over what felt a couple feet the tile returned as the light darkened leaving me in complete darkness.

“All done. We can take them off now.”

Pulling off the fabric what I thought would be the back of the store was actually the p.a room. We could not have done it in a couple steps. It was impossible unless something had moved us.

Pulling four items form his pocket he took a moment fidgeting with them placing them around us in the shape of a square. Turning them on from his phone they looked no bigger then a small apple.

“Two way noise cancellation and stereo systems. Some of my earliest inventions, but still one of my favorites. We can talk and I will explain everything after this. Right now though whatever Paul can do depends on what the answers to some questions are.”

Everything seemed to be way outside my reach as the words rattled around in my head trying to make sense of themselves. These things seemed to be just madness yet I had been teleported so he was telling the truth. Looking at him I nodded my answer to let him know I was ready to hear the questions.

“Can you be trusted? If we have secrets that we have to show to fight back then can you be trusted to keep things secure? We will have to show you things no one will believe or even think possible.”

Nodding my response he turned around muttering something about how this could have been done better. Pushing the main button the speakers came to life

“Paul, go for it!”

Everything seemed to run slower as the guns were seen reflecting their shapes in the life before the three men fired off a shower of bullets knocking him back down in to the darkness. When they had turned around seemingly for us there was a worry that we would be next. Looking over Jake seemed to be more then comfortable. Seemingly knowing something no one else did as the three men turned back around their attention caught by some noise I take as everyone decided to move down that way investigating to see if he was gone. The bullets had hit their mark at least twice, and for some reason we were not helping him. Shaking his arm he just comforted saying his friend was fine. These two guys had teleported me and taken two bullets without even raising the eyebrow of the other wondering this could have gone on for so long. Bouncing around in the room waiting for some sign of life soon scared me.

From near the back of the aisle a shot of bright almost blue light streaked down the length hitting the three attackers knocking them out. Bodies dropping to the floor in various positions no sound was heard of the attack. Making our way down the stairs myself behind Jake it was soon apparent that the guys had come for some reason to end my coworkers. Stepping in to the aisles it smelled like a lightning storm had passed. Seeing the damage up close left me fearful for the whole experience. Paul was slumped against the waist high freezer near the back. Checking for a light in my pockets the only thing was the flashlight app on my phone running behind Jake it was soon apparent he was breathing the only remainders of the battle seemed to be the four bullet holes in his shirt and pants. Under him sat a small puddle of blood shining red against everything the blood trails from the wounds fresh to the floor. Looking for something to wrap his wounds with Jake was having some conversation with him before moving to the back of the store. Finding some paper towels and cheesecloth from the deli section as well as the bandage roll in the first aid kit there seemed to be enough to dress his wounds.

Progress update 7/30

Alison learning was finished for now and know I have three diplomas. One in customer service sciences, and yes there is such a thing. Another in children’s studies going over how children of different ages react and learn and the methods of the past that has been shown to be somewhat reliable for that. The last is in probability so I can at least tell what my odds are when I try to do something. It may not mean anything to add to the resume, but the set up was easy to continue while being very informative.

Magic wise we are still having issues, but a lot more have been ironed out. Soon after that we will be advertising the revamp and getting all that stuff set up is taking a lot of time out of the night. It is going to be fun at grand prix starting in less then ten days.

Advertising wise the youtube channel will also be advertised with the e-book so I got a lot to learn about the next few weeks.

Doing some more writing to get more experience.

Shirt designs have been on the back burner.

One needs to get the most of opportunities.
One also needs more time in the day and more caffine.
Good luck all.

Also coming up is my birthday( May 1st) which kind of serves as a second new year’s day for me. Reaffirming your beliefs and dreams so it is kind of an important day for me. I take some time for this as I also get some planning done on how to get there in the fastest point. After I post this round of fanfics this will be it for a while. I will be trying to focus more on other projects so I am going to take some time and get some planning. Hopefully I will be able to get things going at a pace I like it will also be nice to take a couple days off throwing myself at it without burning out.

Thanks for reading folks.

Fanfiction advice and update.

So I am almost done writing this round of fanfiction. As I had put a couple months previous I only have a couple to go and this round has been very illuminating. When you write with preset characters you see how you like to do things, and your style becomes more definable. It also allows you to try some thing you would not normally write about. whether it be very emotional scenes or very action packed ones you can get a fair bit of practice with things you know. I used to do more technical writing. Things that were directions when something had to be done when I was not present in person.

That and I am a class A sucker for a really sappy romance. Always was so being able to get comments from people and hear what they liked or did not like. Posting something online you will always have some problems with people who just want to rip you apart without actually thinking about their comments. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just trying to be hurtful. Which in my case trying to be hurtful over the internet is like trying to cause a paper cut with a soggy oreo. It just is not going to happen.

So I am almost done and if you want to start with fanfiction the best information I could give is to just jump right in. Find a show or a game that you want to do something before just jumping in.

Cooking for the holidays.

So. I still have problems believing this. I got the fudge done my mint marshmallow fudge, no problems. The ganache is set and all i need is the cocoa powder for the rolled truffles. Well doing all the work with chocolate you get it on you. So I asked my friends to see if they could give me a hand just packing together the popcorn balls. Three grown adults should be able to figure this out no problem while I can go and freshen up.

I say SHOULD because not only did my black cherry popcorn balls not get made no one had any idea what to do. Pour warm syrup over popcorn pack into balls and let chill. I have gotten grade school kids to do this without any hiccups. So I get all clean and I walk out of my room in the fortress of nerditude and two of my friends have popcorn stuck to their clothes with only two balls made. Minus all the syrup they start asking how everything was supposed to happen. I take whats left of the syrup and warm it up again before making one in about a minute.

Everyone just stops right there after putting together that I had everything ready for them and was gone for a half hour. I got one done in less then a minute. My roommate looks over at the other two ( he was supervising due to his bad hand)

“Wow, who feels like an idiot?”

The others raise their hand and I face palm hard enough before having a good group laugh with everyone. We all know that stupid moments happen so we made dark chocolate and cherry flavored popcorn instead. Which tasted pretty well after melting the chocolate to drizzle the cherry popcorn as well as all the spare popcorn another friend told me one thing.

“We cannot cook at all, but we should have told you that beforehand?”

Me and my roommate laughed.

Everyone then went out to subway for dinner.

Happy holidays folks, its good to laugh every once in a while.
