Newgrounds Judging

One thing that happened in the spectrum of games. Newgrounds actually had me be part of a private panel judging on what games would be deemed the best of the month. I had been playing a lot of games from the website for my own little Youtube channel that deals with free indie games or demos.

(Which you can check out below just by hitting the link here (Youtube)

Playing games to find the good from the bad is difficult but also rewarding because I already have a list of games that should be on places like Xbox or Playstation markets for a couple bucks. I am finding the best values as a pc gamer because despite the venom the term free games can bring there is some mighty good stuff on the market that had gone that path for a little more polish. Some of these games already played and currently being put together in videos. This is about the games for the most part, and while I can be a bit of a goof sometime it is more about the game.

I am finding games that people would not believe you can play for free. Soon I will be incorporating more of the games from different website because a good game is just that, and with so many people mad at so many things in the triple A sector a little look in a different field would be good for some. Many people do not think about such things, but this where a lot of people will get their start and while eventually I would like to do some triple A games that is more of a long term side thing while this is the bread and butter.

I will most likely also try to keep opinion pieces on political or social issues on the channel in its own little series called teatime. Just a basic discussion that I think people will enjoy my points on so I can declare this place to be free of politics once again, and I think that will be a little bit better, because often time there is something so stifling about an article on a subject and, a recording of sound will allow a more free form thought process of understanding in the point and time.

Below is a screen capture of my voting screen and it is was based on originality, execution and fun I had playing them. I tried to make enough time for all of them to get a good fair shake, but the puzzle games caught my fancy more this time. It was well deserved because a good puzzle game can be hard to do sometimes, anyway under this is a picture from my voting. The left is the ballot while the right is the games released this month.

There are so many chance there is some treasure just on this screen, and I can tell you that some of them will be part of videos in the future

Typing and Games

Right now Shattered Reflections stands at about 11k words and my shoulders are already complaining about what is to come. The goal on this project is 65k to 90k erring probably on the shorter side. It is an auto biographical project that some people have asked for after finding out some of the experiences I have had. The way it is right now I am just looking at it as a good way to practice writing of that length. Considering writing is something I want to get better at and grow maybe into a career or at least something that would be interesting to try.

My typing speed has taken a nose dive because of my shoulders which sounds weird, but you need your shoulders to keep things going. Without a good base then your arm is pretty much only half of what you can do at your best, and that is weird to think about unless you need to. It will be something that will just be just needed to worked through because, and anyone that has a condition that has to deal with pain can tell you one must either handle it and use it to push or they will always be pushed because of it.

It is nice to see the old stories as well just to go back in time again for certain things. Doing a project like this provides you with some perspective that some people do not have just going through the paces in an average life. This world has too much in it to experience for people to just go through the paces month to month and year to year. Which by the way my father the self professed redneck and I decided a few weeks ago to have a single day in the city of Portland which will be an experience on here soon.

Things are going as well as as they can. Found a little time to play a little bit relaxing with one of the Ludum Dare creations called Steam Heart. It will bring a lot of memories of old Megaman games, and I played to the end of the first boss while not botching too badly. Unfortunately those are the kinds of games that I have absolutely no skill in, and boy does it show. The game is fun enough that even scrubs like me can get through the first boss somewhat easily. The controls are easy to pick up and if you like those kinds of games then please look it up on Newgrounds or even on Google.

Writing as of late

So as of late I have had a couple writing projects coming to an end including three stories. All of them have 2-3 thousand words. Two of them are for the Newgrounds writers guild and the last one is a writing exercise me and a friend online were doing for practice with the subject of romance. I will not have the full things on here, because three stories of that length could be a little bit daunting for some. So instead I will have just the starting paragraph to all three and if you like them then their will either be a place you can read them in full or I could just put it up later depending.

Duty Of The Heart – Romance

Watching the sun fall over the village all was as it should have been from the outside. Peaceful and many of the soldiers back home with their loved ones. That did not make him feel any better as he stood watching from his place near the window. For as the moonlight began to glow the questions begin to come en masse. Why did everyone hate them? Why did they believe they would do them harm? It was only when they had mobilized from the village that the battle truly began and all of his power to stop it was useless at the charge of the masses.

Fact Or Fiction – Newgrounds Horror 1

You never know when creatures like me are watching. We all exist outside of your fears no matter how much things like the news try to tell you every few days with some new crime that would shock even the police officers. Some of you reading this may even be seeing me very soon all comfortable in your room or local library surrounded by people you would think are fine upstanding citizens.

Pale Rider – Newgrounds Horror 2

He ran over the stone path. Orange light painted everything abnormal shades making him further on edge then he could be. Snapping back there was no body, no form behind him that could be seen following him. It did not matter though, because he knew he was in it’s view. The uneasy weight baring down on his spirit made it all so clear. Clearing the gate with a vault the time was ticking down before he could get to the door. Home was in sight as he took bigger breaths for the final push. Willing his legs to go faster. Everyone who would be able to watch wouldn’t even say anything for their were the kind of people to not get in to someone else’s affairs no matter what they were. If it was illegal or even slightly suspicious people would rather just close their blinds before saying something and he might die because of it.

Philosophical Musing and Diet Dr Update

So if those of you have noticed I tend to have a fair bit of faith in my own talents and abilities and other days I sound like a second string super villain. Taking some time away from becoming the understudy to the Riddler to wax philosophically I have found out three things.

A. Advertising independently for more then three hours straight is like unknowingly taking a clone of yourself on a date. Nothing to talk about trying to figure if the both are on the same league.

B. Trying to do so without feeling like a gigantic nob takes at least ten pages of whatever I am reading or writing to take your mind off of it for a moment. Which normally as with the group youtube channel would be much easier because we could just revolve when we needed breaks.

C. I spend way too much time thinking.

Going to the update portion of the this post I got some recipes and I am working on the organization a little bit more.

National novel writing month is coming up so if the time allows I will see if I can get something out for that.

Having fun doing game videos through what I can find on Newgrounds though, and a couple of them are already out. It is nice to see how some people have taken to learning on creating whole new worlds. I love trying new things even if it is a new world and that is one reason why I love games. Plus, some of the best stories come from games. To each their own personal cup of story enjoying tea.

Video wise there is another one up on the game called chamber door a nice little point and click adventure is worth a play if anything
